I had recently discovered that my Email directory was taking up a lot of space on a server at work. After clearing out some unwanted emails, is then discovered it had done nothing to actually recover any disk space.
I soon found out that Thunderbird doesn’t seem to delete emails until over a year after they were actually deleted.
This does allow you to recover some deleted emails by right clicking on the folder in question, selecting properties, then chosing Rebuild Index on that folder.
But if you are like me and just wanted to recover disk space, you need to click File -> Compact Folders. This will recover a surprising amount of space.
This is my first update for a while. The last month have been really busy so over the next long weekend I hope to catch up a bit on my tasks.
