I was given a task of installing a Dell All-In-One (AIO) Photo 962 on a Advent Laptop with Windows Vista on. What I thought was going to be a relatively easy task, turned out to be a rather steep learning curve in Vista Printers.
The driver that came with the machine didn't install well, threw up quite a few error messages during installation.
I decided to search for the latest Vista Drivers on the net. These installed fine, but would not allow me to print anything to the printer, complaining the 'Communication was not available'.
After a couple of days of playing around, and causing myself further problems, I managed to get it working.
I started getting a 'Spooler Subsystem App Stopped Working', which I had at the beginning. I found that I had to go to the Control Panel, select Programs and Features, then select Turn Windows features on or off. Expand the Printer Options, and select LPD and LPR. You should remove Internet Printing Client. Restart your PC to ensure there is no error of spooler service.
Once you have done this, try printing again, if not, reinstall your printer.
